Library Amerongen
March 31, 2019
The approximately 3500 books are housed in an attractive room facing south - a favorite room of the residents of the time. In the time of Count van Aldenburg Bentinck the room was used as a sitting room. You can imagine how he was reading in a large armchair by the fireplace. On a table lies an old States Bible in calfskin leather binding, with handwritten notes of births and deaths. The embroidered armchairs date from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The wallpaper - small sheets of printed paper - was made in France around 1835.
Elfia, life your fantasy
April 12, 2019
Elfia can be described as an event, a costume event, with amazing and beautiful costumes; with lively performances, sensational shows and market stalls where you can buy things you didn't know existed about.
Elfia takes place in reality; every year; twice; in April and September on beautiful castle grounds. You can travel to Elfia in your normal car or by train, but as soon as you enter through the castle gates, as soon as you step across the line that we call the magical border, you enter a magical world. A dream world where everyone is connected and where everyone respects each other.
You are welcome in this world and you will feel at home; and we call you ... an Elfian.

Photo shoot Kobald piano's
March 06, 2019
On Thursday afternoon, March 7, 2019, I will visit Kobald pianos.
In 1985, Theo Kobald returned from Canada, following a carpentry course in Vancouver. As "Gebroeders Kobald", brother Paul and Theo started a piano restoration company a year later. The many instruments from all sorts of time periods that we were confronted with aroused my interest in the sound and construction of historical instruments, so I decided to build fortepianos in addition to restoring pianos and grand pianos.
We delivered the first fortepiano to the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. In the meantime, various musicians from home and abroad play the instruments of my hand, and there are fortepianos in the Netherlands, Germany, and France among others. In 2007, I and my brother started my own businesses with separate specializations, even though we are still working together on some major projects
Shoot library Amerongen castle
March 18, 2019
In Kasteel Amerongen I have permission to photograph the library, the 8th of 10 in this project.
The Amerongen Castle library is one of the few preserved noble libraries from the 18th century. Almost all the books are from the original inhabitants of the castle. An important characteristic of a noble library is that it includes books that were considered important in time to participate in court life, and books that are important for the management of the estate. The Huys library contains a large number of important works that require treatment. Examples include a state Bible with calfskin leather binding (1650), in which the manuscripts of members of the Van Reede family are found, a two-part land atlas by the famous Dutch cartographer Johannes van Keulen (1724) and The Gardeners Dictionary (1759), written by the English botanist Philip Miller.
With the help of 17 volunteers from the castle, RNA cleaned the books, provided support materials where necessary and secured parts to avoid the risk of loss.
65 books have been selected from the collection that require a major restoration that have not been repaired on location but in the studio. Funds have been sought and found for this by the Circle of Friends of the castle!

Photo shoot library Rococo
January 02, 2019
A nice photo shoot done in the library of abbey Rolduc in Kerkrade. Reception and guidance was very well arranged. A reason to go back again for an overnight stay. The impressive abbey complex was founded in 1104 by Ailbertus van Antoing. Culture, science and religion have gone hand in hand since the twelfth century. Witnesses of this can now be found in the beautiful abbey church, the crypt and the 18-century Rococo library. The unique geographical location of Rolduc Abbey can be found at the intersection of countries and cultures, where the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium meet in one common region, the Meuse-Rhine Euregion. The current collection of the library of Abbey Rolduc started around 1757. Since the people of Liege moved all books to Sint Truiden (B) in 1843, the library had to be reconstructed. In the mid-20th century, books from the Rolduc abbey returned to the Rococo library from neighboring presbyteries and archives. This collection consists of more than 7000 titles including philosophy, mathematics, world history, mythology, bible sciences, church literature, Dutch, English, Greek and French literature and linguistics, the oldest of which is from the 16 th century.

Photo shoot Artis library Amsterdam
June 07, 2018
Had the 7th library in the series of 10 in the Artis library in Amsterdam. In 1838 the zoological society Natura Artis Magistra was founded by a number of Amsterdam notables, including bookseller and bird lover Gerardus Frederik Westerman (1807-1890). The aim was "to promote the knowledge of natural history". To this end, not only the well-known Artis zoo was established, but also a zoological museum and a library were founded. The society immediately received valuable gifts for the library (ao from Westerman itself) and also purchased many books and magazines. In 1881, when a catalog was compiled by librarian Gilles Janse, the collection consisted of 4381 titles. Today, the collection has more than 16,000 titles. From 1848 to 1995 the society published the journal Contributions to Zoology. All episodes are now still stored in the Artis Library.

Landschaftpark Duisburg
May 10, 2018
On Saturday, May 11, 2018 at 10:30 I drove to Duisburg to take pictures during the day and in the evening. A beautiful park and especially beautifully lit. The Duisburg-Nord Landschafstpark is not a normal park, because on its 180-hectare site, industrial culture is linked with nature and a fascinating light installation that makes the park shine in brightly colored light at night. The park was built on the site of the disused metalworking company Duisburg-Meiderich. Like many other places in the Ruhr metropolis, it thus forms an industrial stage: the old factory halls, blast furnaces and Gasometer were not simply demolished, but reused in a creative, convenient and, above all, aesthetic way.

Nice shoot in a wood sawmill
January 19, 2018
Made an appointment with the miller from "de Rat" to do a photo shoot. So I drove to Friesland early in the morning to do the shoot in IJlst with super people and a super welcome.
On the banks of the Geeuw, the age-old shipping connection between IJlst and Sneek, stands the unique wood sawmill "the Rat" that is still in full production. Trunks that lie in the water, the sound of the rotating blades, the ramming of the up and down saw windows, the smell of freshly sawn wood, here you can still experience the old wood sawing craft that has been performed daily in "The Rat" for more than 3 centuries.
High water Deventer

Urbex shoot Germany
January 12, 2018
On Saturday, January 13, it was time to leave for Germany for an urbex shoot in the "Kent school". This urbex was a paid urbex shoot so a legal access to the site where we were expected at 10 am and were allowed to roam until 2:30 pm in the 3 buildings on the complex.
After four years of construction, the St. Jozefsheim monastery was taken into use in 1913 by the brothers of Fransiscus. It consisted of a chapel, office, school and two other buildings. About 600 people lived in the monastery, most of whom were mentally and psychologically ill. Due to the rise and pressure of the Nazis, the brothers of Fransiscus left the monastery on 23 May 1937.
By a new law in 1939, which meant that every incapacitated newborn was to be registered, the monastery became a special children's home and was named "Kinderfachabteilung Waldniel". In reality, it became a center for those who were not welcome in Nazi Germany. When on 1 October 1939 Adolf Hitler gained full power over Germany, the home became a euthanasia center that was to lead to the final solution.
The first leading physician in the center was Georg Renno, but he was soon transferred to the Hartheim Institute. After the war, he was ultimately responsible for killing 28,000 people. His replacement in Hostert was Hermann Wesse.
Between 1939 and 1943, 512 people died in Hostert, including 128 children. At least 30 children are certain to have been killed in the euthanasia program through an overdose of luminal.
In 1952 the buildings were returned to the Fransiscus Order who sold it to the English army in 1955. Until 1963 the English used it as a military hospital. Then it was converted into a school called Kent School. In the end there were 1400 children in school, 270 at the boarding school, the rest was taken to school by bus. Every day 50 buses drove to the school and a special bus station was even built on site.
The school was closed in 1992, since then it is empty and it is for sale.
Opening exhibition studio28

What was beautiful is that everyone experienced the atmosphere of back then, back in time and your delusions in that period. A very successful opening!
